Kambia is the Faculty-Led division of Global Brigades. Kambia is an organization dedicate to bring experiencial learning into the university classes. Kambia & Global Brigades are unique in many ways. First, Global Brigades acts as an empowering movement by offering a Holistic Model for sustainable development and healthcare in the communities we serve. Unlike other organizations, we not only support our students but also have an on-the-ground team that works with the communities to improve community economic development year-round. Global Brigades combats financial discrepancies in our communities not only through business educational workshops, but also through medical, public health and water infrastructure projects. We also run regular client check-ups in our partner communities in order to provide sustainable economic development, until each client has the tools necessary to lead their entrepreneurship.

Kambia provides a unique opportunity for you to work closely with clients in communities. The students will be able to provide business consultations to micro-enterprises in our partner communities. Likewise, they will help provide local entrepreneurs with the necessary tools to help build their small businesses.

Students will also have the opportunity to work alongside community-owned banks and provide financial literacy workshops.

Specific student experiences vary between programs. Our staff has been trained to create an inclusive and collaborative environment with the students. We encourage all our staff members to make the Kambia program an educational experience for the students, while still providing efficient and effective economic development to clients.

The safety of the participants is Kambia’s number one priority and is the single most important consideration when entering a community or choosing a project. Each country that Global Brigades & Kambia serves in has implemented safety protocols and policies to decrease any risk of danger and to ensure that any emergency can be properly handled in a prompt and professional manner.

Before entering a community, the GB Research and Evaluation (R&E) team collects baseline data, assesses community needs and secures buy-in from the local leadership. Each community is visited by the operations team of the local Global Brigades office to ensure that it is secure and safe for transporting the volunteers to and from the community. If the in-country leadership team ever feels that the safety of participants is compromised in any way, students would be immediately withdrawn from the community.
